What this site is
praguecastle.guide is a privately operated travel information website about Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) and the monuments inside it: St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, Golden Lane and the castle gardens.
We publish practical guidance — what admission covers, what it costs in Czech crowns, which entrance moves fastest, what is worth your time indoors, and when to go so you are not queuing behind four coaches. Every page is written to answer the questions people actually type into a search box before a visit.
What this site is not
- We do not sell tickets. We have no ticketing system, no checkout and no access to castle inventory.
- We do not set prices. Every price we quote is taken from the official price list or from a licensed reseller's live catalogue.
- We cannot amend, refund or cancel a booking. If you booked through a link on this site, the contract is with the reseller, and their support team handles it.
- We are not a tour operator. We do not employ guides and we do not run tours.
Where our facts come from
Admission prices, opening hours, discount categories and closure rules are taken from the Prague Castle Administration's own published material — principally the official price list and the visitor information pages on hrad.cz. Where we quote an exact figure, we say where it came from and when we last checked it.
Historical detail is drawn from the castle's published descriptions of its buildings and from standard reference works on the site's architecture. Where a popular story is unreliable — the alchemists of Golden Lane, for example — we say so rather than repeating it.
Prices and hours change. Buildings close for state ceremonies at short notice. We date our checks and update pages when we find a discrepancy, but the official site is always the authority. Confirm before you travel.
How this site is funded
Through affiliate commission. When you follow a booking link on this site to Tiqets or GetYourGuide and complete a purchase, we receive a commission from that partner. You pay the same price you would pay going directly — the commission comes out of the reseller's margin, not out of your pocket.
That is the entire business model. We do not sell advertising, we do not accept payment for favourable coverage, and no venue, operator or hotel has editorial input into what we publish.
It also means we tell you when not to buy something. The rented audio guide is poor value against an online bundle. The second circuit ticket is unnecessary for most first visits. Fast-track tickets do nothing in January. Saying so costs us commission and keeps the site worth reading.
How we write
- Prices in local currency first. Prague Castle charges in Czech crowns. Any site quoting a fixed euro price for official admission is describing something else.
- Numbers get sourced. If we tell you a ticket costs 450 CZK, we say which document says so and when we read it.
- No invented experiences. We do not write first-person stories about visits that did not happen. Advice is given plainly.
- We name the trade-offs. Every recommendation on this site has a downside, and we print it next to the upside.
- Translations are edited, not machine-dumped. Each language version is written to read naturally in that language rather than passed through a translation engine unchanged.
Languages
The site is published in 22 languages. English is the source version; the others are translated and adapted, with currency and cultural references adjusted for each audience. Official ticket names and Czech place names are kept in the original where translating them would make them harder to recognise at the gate.
Corrections
If a price, an opening time or a route on this site is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Include the page and what you saw on the ground — corrections from people who were physically there last week are the most useful thing we receive.
